Stephen B. Hunter, Esq.

Mr. Hunter graduated from Ohio State University in 1969 where he was a three time recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award. In 1972 he obtained his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School.

He was employed by the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission (NJPERC) for eight years as an Administrative Hearing Officer, Administrative Law Judge, Mediator, Special Assistant to the Chairman and Special Labor Counsel to the Commission.

In 1980, Mr. Hunter became a partner in a Somerville, NJ law firm concentrating in public sector labor law. He has represented several hundred local teacher's associations (NJEA affiliates) in all 21 counties of the State of New Jersey and thousands of police, firefighter, Municipal and County employees and approximately 100 Police, Firefighter, Municipal and County Employee Unions in all litigation/labor relations capacities.

Mr. Hunter has litigated numerous cases before NJPERC, the NJ Civil Service Commission/Merit System Board and in State and Federal Courts. He has argued more than one dozen cases before the New Jersey Supreme Court.

He has been  a frequent lecturer for both the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education and Lorman Education Services seminars on public sector labor law and the rights of public employees. He is a member of the New Jersey Lawyer Editorial Board.

In 2006, 2005 and 2004, he has been selected by his peers as  a "Super Lawyer" in the  field of Labor and Employment Law"  and featured in New Jersey Monthly Magazine.

In January 2006, Mr. Hunter merged his practice with  Michael L. Detzky to form Detzky & Hunter, LLC with offices in Somerville and Freehold, N.J.
