The practice of Mr. Hunter and Mr. DeFillippo is concentrated in representing labor unions and their members, primarily in the public sector. They represent individual employees and labor organizations in labor and employment related matters in State and Federal Court, as well as in administrative proceedings. They provide counsel and advice on a wide range of issues including the interpretation and application of the New Jersey Employee/Employer Relations Act (often referred to as the “PERC” Act), the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the New Jersey State Law Against Discrimination, Federal and State Wage and Hour Laws and wrongful termination matters.
Mr. Hunter and Mr. DeFillippo represent NJEA affiliates and individual employees concerning a wide variety of labor and employment issues including unfair practice proceedings before PERC, disability related cases, harassment and other discrimination matters, tenure and seniority rights litigation and pension and health benefits cases.
Police and Firefighter Union Representation
Mr. Hunter and Mr. DeFillippo have also represented numerous Police and Firefighter unions throughout the State in contract negotiations as well as grievance and interest arbitration proceedings. They have been involved in extensive trial and appellate litigation before the Federal and State Courts, PERC, the New Jersey Civil Service Commission, the Division of Pensions and other State agencies on behalf of these unions.
Mr. DeFillippo and Mr. Hunter’s practice areas on behalf of public employees also include their involvement in law enforcement internal affairs investigations and disciplinary matters. They are State LPP (Legal Protection Plan) members as is Mr. Detzky.
